Because of the way Medicare plans change from year to year, you should always schedule a review with your advisor every year. Many people do this during AEP or Open Enrollment. The problem with this is the fact this is a very hectic time. Seminars, meetings, events, etc.
I recommend you pick a time other than AEP to review everything. Of course, if the plan you are in is cancelled or makes drastic changes, you will have to see your advisor immediately. Otherwise, pick up the phone and schedule a convenient time to meet with your advisor to discuss things.
Personally, I like to review life insurance and other insurance related products like annuities at this time as well. Often, beneficiaries need to be changed for one reason or another. A term life policy may be expiring or you may need burial insurance coverage because the plan you had at work expired or got cancelled.
