I’m a professional Medicare Advisor and I earn my living helping people sort through the Medicare maze. As I much as I’d like to say it isn’t so, you can do it all yourself.

Guys and gals like me spend our Augusts and Septembers getting to know all the new Medicare plans coming out for the upcoming year. We try and find out which plans offer the best value for our clients and most of us are very ethical.

That said, I would suggest dealing only with an advisor that is a broker rather than an agent for a particular company. The agent, although likely to be ethical as well, can only tell you about the plans from the company he or she represents. The broker, like myself, can offer almost any plan marketed in the area he or she works.

But what about the Do-It-Yourself person? Can you do it on your own? The simple answer is…yes you can.

In fact, the government offers you a great tool on the official Medicare website.

Simply, go to the Medicare.gov website and follow the instructions. You can enter your prescriptions and find out which plan works best for you.

So if you are the DIY type person, have at it. If not , give me a call and I’ll be happy to guide you along.
